Crossroads
for the string quartet (revised 2003), durata 13 min., 2001This piece of music was originally composed as a music for mime show „The dream about creation“. And I was asked for it by its director Štefan Capko. So, I composed ten miniatures for string quartet, in which I used colour possibilities of string instruments in the most maximum way. After the premiere, I decided to keep some of them also for concert performance – each time, they could be played in different order, so that, although the details were always the same, the whole of the composition was different in each performance. I was called it „ The fragments“ at that time, each time, individual fragments formed another mosaic.
Later, I remade this piece in this way – three miniaturs were kept without alternation, the others were considerably changed and they were replaced by the new ones. Finally, the composition consists of seven short parts that are united into two – movement whole. This whole symbolize the crossroads – both parts start in the same way, but their evolution reaches the opposite goals.
